Privacy Policy

Gnumo is operated by Gnumo LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company. When this policy says "Gnumo," "we," "us," or "our," it means Gnumo LLC. Our contact email for privacy matters is gnumoapp@gmail.com.
1. Information you give us directly
- Account information: your name, email address, and password when you create an account
- Profile information: display name, avatar, study preferences, subjects, and goals you set during onboarding
- Study data: session times, focus scores, subjects studied, Recall entries, goals, grades, and budget information you enter
- Payment information: if you subscribe to Gnumo+, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card number โ Stripe handles payment processing and their privacy policy applies to payment data
- Communications: messages you send in club chat, posts you share on the feed, and any support requests you send us
2. Information we collect automatically
- Usage data: which features you use, how often you open the app, session frequency and duration
- Device information: device type, operating system, browser type, and general location (country/region level only)
- Log data: IP address, access times, pages viewed, and app crashes
- Analytics: we use PostHog to understand how users interact with the app. PostHog collects anonymised usage data. You can review PostHog's privacy policy at posthog.com/privacy
3. How we use your information
- Provide, operate, and improve the Gnumo service
- Calculate your focus score, maintain your streak, and power the Recall system
- Enable club features, leaderboards, and the social feed
- Process payments and manage your subscription
- Send you notifications about your streak, club battles, and account activity
- Respond to your support requests
- Understand how the app is used so we can make it better
- Comply with legal obligations
- Serve advertisements to free tier users through third party advertising partners. These partners may use cookies and similar tracking technologies to serve ads based on your interests and browsing activity. Advertising partners may collect data about your interactions with ads shown on Gnumo. See Section 5a below for more information about advertising and your opt-out rights.
4. Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.
We share information in the following limited circumstances:
- With other users: Information you choose to make public โ your display name, focus scores you post, club membership, league rank, and feed posts โ is visible to other Gnumo users according to the privacy settings you configure during onboarding and in settings.
- With service providers: We share data with companies that help us operate the service, including Supabase (database and authentication), Stripe (payment processing), Anthropic (AI features), PostHog (analytics), and Resend (email delivery). These providers are contractually required to protect your data and may only use it to provide services to us.
- For legal reasons: We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Gnumo, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers: If Gnumo is acquired, merged, or sells its assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email and a notice on the app before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
We reserve the right to share anonymised, aggregated data that cannot reasonably identify you โ for example publishing statistics about study habits across our user base โ without restriction.
5. Data retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account we will delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or financial compliance purposes (for example Stripe transaction records which we retain for 7 years as required by tax law).
Study session data, focus scores, and Recall history are retained for the life of your account and deleted with it.
5a. Advertising
Gnumo displays third party advertisements to free tier users. Gnumo+ subscribers and users with beta access do not see advertisements.
Our advertising partners may use cookies, device identifiers, and similar technologies to collect information about your use of the service and other websites and apps in order to serve you relevant advertisements. This data collection by advertising partners may constitute a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under certain state privacy laws including CCPA.
You have the following rights regarding advertising:
- California residents may opt out of the sale or sharing of their personal information for advertising purposes by emailing privacy@getgnumo.com with the subject line "Opt Out of Advertising."
- EU and UK residents may withdraw consent for advertising cookies at any time through the cookie preference centre or by emailing privacy@getgnumo.com.
- All users may opt out of interest-based advertising by visiting the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page at optout.networkadvertising.org or the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out page at optout.aboutads.info.
Note that opting out does not mean you will see no ads โ it means the ads you see will not be personalised based on your interests.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have rights including:
- The right to access the personal data we hold about you
- The right to correct inaccurate data
- The right to delete your data (right to erasure)
- The right to export your data in a portable format
- The right to withdraw consent for processing where consent is the legal basis
- The right to opt out of certain types of data sharing
To exercise any of these rights email us at gnumoapp@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.
California residents: Under CCPA you have additional rights including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. We do not sell personal information as defined under CCPA. To submit a CCPA request email gnumoapp@gmail.com.
EU and UK residents: If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, GDPR applies to your data. Our legal basis for processing your data is (a) contract performance โ processing necessary to provide the service you signed up for, (b) legitimate interests โ analytics and improving the service, and (c) consent โ where we ask for it specifically. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
7. Cookies
We use essential cookies required to operate the service (authentication sessions). We use analytics cookies through PostHog to understand usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect your ability to use the service.
8. Children's privacy
Gnumo is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us at gnumoapp@gmail.com and we will delete it.
Users between 13 and 18 should have parental consent before using the service.
9. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), encrypted storage through Supabase, access controls, and regular security reviews. No system is completely secure. If you discover a security vulnerability please report it to gnumoapp@gmail.com.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email and by posting a notice in the app at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Your continued use of the service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
