This Privacy Policy explains how Weila LLC ("Weila," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares personal information when you use the Weila website, application, and related services (the "Service"). Weila LLC is a limited liability company organized in Wyoming, United States.

1. Information you give us directly

Account information: your email address and password when you create an account.
Profile information: your display name, avatar, preferences, subjects, and the goals you set during onboarding.
Study data: study sessions, focus scores, recall entries, goals, grades, and similar information you enter or generate while using the Service.
Payment information: when you subscribe to Weila+, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card number; Stripe handles payment processing and gives us limited information such as subscription status.
Communications and User Content: messages you send in club chat, posts you share on the feed, images you upload, and any support messages you send us.
Uploaded images and their metadata: images you upload may contain embedded metadata such as location (GPS) coordinates, device information, and timestamps. Where practical we strip location metadata on upload, but you should remove sensitive metadata yourself before uploading if you are concerned.

2. Information we collect automatically

Usage data: which features you use, how often you open the Service, and session frequency and length.
Device information: device type, operating system, browser type, and general location (country or region level).
Log data: IP address, access times, pages viewed, and crash reports.

We use Cloudflare to deliver and secure the Service and to provide bot protection (including CAPTCHA challenges through Cloudflare Turnstile). Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address for these purposes.

3. Smart features and AI

Some features of the Service (for example study assistance, coaching, recaps, quizzes, and generated study material) are powered by third-party AI providers, currently Google (Gemini API). When you use these features, the content you provide as input may be transmitted to and processed by Google to generate a response.

We use these providers under terms intended to prevent your inputs from being used to train their general-purpose models. We do not send your payment details to AI providers. Do not enter sensitive personal information into smart features that you would not want processed by a third-party provider.

4. How we use your information

Provide, operate, secure, and improve the Service.
Calculate your focus scores, power study and recall features, and track your goals and progress.
Operate Contribution Points and community conservation features.
Enable social features such as clubs, chat, and the feed.
Process payments and manage your subscription.
Send you notifications about your account, streaks, challenges, and activity.
Respond to your support requests.
Serve advertising to free-tier users (see Section 5).
Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues.
Comply with legal obligations.

5. Advertising

We display third-party advertising to free-tier users, served through advertising partners including Google. Weila+ subscribers do not see third-party ads.

Minors. We serve only non-personalized advertising to any user we know to be under 18, in every region. Non-personalized ads are not based on your interests or profile.

Other users. For users 18 and over, advertising partners may use cookies, device identifiers, and similar technologies to serve interest-based ads, subject to your consent where required. Depending on where you live, sharing information with advertising partners may be treated as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under certain laws.

Your choices:

In the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, you can set or change your advertising and cookie preferences at any time through our consent tool, or by emailing legal@joinweila.com.
California residents can opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information by emailing legal@joinweila.com with the subject line "Opt Out of Advertising."
All users can opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies through the Digital Advertising Alliance (optout.aboutads.info) and, in the EU, Your Online Choices (youronlinechoices.eu).

Opting out does not remove ads; it means the ads you see will not be personalized.

6. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information for money.

We share information in the following circumstances:

With other users: information you choose to make public, such as your display name, certain scores, your club rank, and feed posts, is visible to other users according to your privacy settings.
With service providers who help us run the Service, under contracts that require them to protect your data and use it only to provide services to us. These currently include:
- Supabase (database, authentication, and storage hosting).
- Stripe (payment processing).
- Cloudflare (content delivery, security, and CAPTCHA).
- Google (advertising and AI-powered smart features).
For legal reasons: we may disclose information if required by law, court order, or legal process, or where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Weila, our users, or the public. This includes reporting child sexual abuse material to NCMEC and law enforcement.
Business transfers: if Weila is acquired, merged, or sells its assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
Aggregated or anonymized data that cannot reasonably identify you, such as overall statistics about study habits, may be shared without restriction.

7. Cookies and consent

We use:

Essential cookies required to operate the Service, such as authentication and session cookies.
Advertising and analytics technologies as described in Section 5.

You can control cookies through our consent tool and through your browser settings. Disabling some cookies may affect how the Service works. In the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, we ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies.

8. Data retention

We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we must retain certain records for legal or financial compliance (for example, Stripe transaction records, which we retain as required by applicable law).

Study data, focus scores, and similar records are kept for the life of your account and are deleted with it.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights: to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to export it, to restrict or object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent where consent is the legal basis.

To exercise any of these rights, email legal@joinweila.com. We will respond within the time required by applicable law (generally within 30 days).

EEA and UK residents. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the GDPR or UK GDPR applies. Our legal bases for processing are: (a) performance of our contract with you, to provide the Service you signed up for; (b) our legitimate interests, such as securing and improving the Service, where these are not overridden by your rights; (c) your consent, for advertising and non-essential cookies, which you may withdraw at any time; and (d) compliance with legal obligations. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

California residents. Under the CCPA/CPRA, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell personal information for money. To make a request, email legal@joinweila.com.

Canadian residents. We handle personal information in accordance with PIPEDA and applicable provincial privacy laws. You may request access to or correction of your personal information, and you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada with concerns.

10. International transfers

We are based in the United States and use service providers in the United States and elsewhere. If you use the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in countries that may have different data protection laws than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.

11. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us at legal@joinweila.com and we will delete it. Users between 13 and 18 must have parental or guardian consent to use the Service, and we serve only non-personalized advertising to users under 18.

12. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), encrypted storage through Supabase, access controls, and regular review. No system is completely secure. If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it to legal@joinweila.com.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or an in-app notice at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated policy.
